This beautiful colour mix is in honour of Elka May Blackie - 29 March 2011
Elka’s story; written by her mum and dad.
On 29th March 2011 our first child, a beautiful baby girl whom we named Elka May, was born sleeping. She was absolutely perfect from the top of her head to her tiny little toes. No one will ever know why I went into early labour that day and why she could not be here with us on this earth. We were able to spend the night with her and gain precious time, memories and photos.
It is impossible to explain the physical and emotional pain of losing her; and the enduring feeling that our family is not complete - that there is a vital piece missing. In 2012 we had a son named Joseph and in 2013 a beautiful girl named Emilia. They give us so much joy and purpose and we are so proud to be their parents.
However, I dread the question, that is asked surprisingly often, “How many children do you have?”. Sometimes I will tell our story, but mostly I say out loud words like “I have two at home/school” and in my heart I cry “and one in heaven”. I feel like I am denying her, not wanting to make others feel uncomfortable, or fearing that they will not - that they cannot - understand. Our tiny baby girl has changed us: made us gentler of others, more loving and so incredibly grateful for all that we do have. Thank you Tenille and Made for Maisie for the opportunity to share our Elka’s story. Say their name.
